One Piece reveals the identity of Elbaf's fake Sun God

The newest chapters of One Piece featured the Straw Hat Pirates embarking on their quest on Elbaf, the legendary home of the Giant Race. Luffy and the others were surprised to discover that they were imprisoned inside a diorama-style environment after investigating their surroundings.

The Straw Hats were cautioned by a local not to enter the temple, which was guarded by multiple rabid guardians and was overseen by a specific “Sun God.” Luffy and Zoro were just made more curious by this. When the group arrived to the temple, Luffy and Zoro vanquished the enormous raven Muginn and the enormous snake Hilmungandr who were defending the area.

It so happened that the Sun God entered the temple at the same moment. Enraged by what he witnessed, he vowed to exact revenge on the Straw Hat Pirates. Notably, the God of the Sun his face was hidden by an animal skull he wore on his head. Fans began to conjecture about the character’s real identity as a result.

Since he was introduced in the series with the same moniker as “Sun God” Nika, there have been rumors about him. It’s a strange coincidence that Nika, a renowned woman from the past, appears to be well-known on Elbaf.

Fortunately, the question was resolved in One Piece chapter 1129. As per the chapter’s spoilers, Road—a former companion of Straw Hat Grand Fleet member Hajrudin—is actually Elbaf’s purported Sun God.

The official release date of One Piece chapter 1129 is set for October 14, 2024. The MANGA Plus app and website from Shueisha will host the installment. The first verified spoilers indicate that the chapter will continue to center on the adventures of the Straw Hat crew on Elbaf while providing insight into the true nature of the enigmatic Sun God who has set his sights on them.

According to the spoilers, Sun God tried to ensnare the Straw Hats in an iron net, but Zoro and Sanji managed to smash it with ease. The Sun God is a character that has already featured in the story, as One Piece chapter 1129 reveals. Admittedly, only the keenest readers will remember him, what with his relatively small part and minimal screen time..

The installment’s brief backstory reveals that Road, an Elbaf-born Giant, is the false Sun God. Road, who had previously fought alongside Hajrudin in the New Giant Warrior Pirates, made the decision to depart from the group after learning that his captain and friend had joined the Straw Hat Grand Fleet.

The Straw Hat Pirates were rendered asleep when sailing through a region of sleeping mist on their way to Elbaf. Road used this situation as an opportunity to dispatch Muginn, the enormous crow that Zoro vanquished in One Piece chapter 1128, to intercept their ship. Later, he imprisoned them as his pets in a massive room with walls that resembled mirrors until they managed to escape.

The spoilers indicate that Road will be held accountable for his deeds. According to the leaks, the new chapter ends with Luffy using Gear 4 to break through the walls of Road’s temple and Nami hitting him with a powerful thunderbolt sent by Zeus.

Road, the fake Sun God of Elbaf

About Road’s personality, not much is known at this time. He was born in Elbaf sixty-three years before to the current One Piece story. It should be mentioned that he was born on a particularly important day because the Prince of Elbaf, Loki, was also born on the same day.

Over time, Road made friends with Hajrudin, Gerd, Stansen, Goldberg, and other Giants from his generation. Road and the others went to Ohara twenty-two years before to the current narrative, when they took a crucial action to protect the priceless research of the island’s academics.

They saved what remained of Ohara’s books and brought them to Elbaf, guided by Jaguar D. Saul. The true history that the Ohara researchers unearthed and the World Government attempted to suppress would have remained hidden forever if Road, Hajrudin, and the other Giants hadn’t existed.

Hajrudin assembled his boyhood pals to form the New Giant Warrior Pirates, hoping to follow in the footsteps of Dorry and Brogy’s Giant Warrior Pirates. Road became a member of the team as its guide. Hajrudin’s gang eventually joined Buggy’s Delivery, a company that specialized in providing mercenaries to help people in exchange for payment.

Following their friendship during the Dressrosa Arc, Hajrudin made the decision to swear allegiance to Monkey D. Luffy and the Straw Hat Pirates, particularly Usopp. As a result, the New Giant Warrior Pirates joined the Straw Hat Grand Fleet and departed from Buggy’s group. As stated in One Piece chapter 1129, Road was vehemently against Hajrudin’s decision.

Road abandoned the group to take on the persona of Elbaf’s Sun God after being disappointed with his companion. It’s interesting to note that author of One Piece Eiichiro Oda has already alluded to this development. Given the Sun God’s appearance, it’s plausible that this person donned Road’s fur-lined slacks and high-heeled boots. Additionally, they both had the same thin, slender build—a physical appearance uncommon among Giants.

Oda’s clever prediction is made all the more astounding when you realize that the chapter 898 cover features a picture of Road. The title of the part, “I will return,” suddenly makes perfect sense because Road’s character really made a second trip back to Elbaf to take up the role of Sun God for the region.

Why Road singled out the Straw Hat Pirates is still unknown. Maybe he hates them because they made him split up with his pal Hajrudin in the first place. However, there is little possibility that Road will cause problems for the Straw Hats. He should have a strength level similar to Hajrudin, who was far less powerful than Dressrosa Arc Luffy.

Therefore, Road can no longer really constitute a threat. He should be significantly weaker than Sanji, let alone Zoro, not to mention Luffy. One Piece chapter 1129 actually depicts Road being overpowered by Nami, indicating that Jinbe and Franky would undoubtedly defeat him as well.

Even if Road is obviously too weak to be a convincing adversary for the Elbaf Arc, it’s nevertheless fascinating to consider the reasons behind his acts. Road likely thinks highly of Nika because he called himself after the “Sun God.”

One Piece is probably preparing Road to reconsider his stance on the Straw Hats. He might decide to become friends with them after learning that Luffy possesses Nika’s legendary abilities. This could also pave the way for Road and Hajrudin to make amends, which would enable the New Giant Warrior Pirates to join forces with Dorry and Brogy to support the Straw Hats in their fight against the arc’s true antagonists.
