Deadpool and Wolverine lead MCU to historic landmark

Chief Kevin Feige’s presentation in Hall H of San Diego Comic-Con revealed the Marvel franchise’s historic achievement on a worldwide scale. The news was made shortly after the movie celebrated a historic first day of box office receipts in North America of $96 million, the greatest opening ever for an R-rated movie and the sixth highest total ever, Variety said.

Given that some of the Marvel franchise’s earlier movies had poor box office debuts, the Deadpool and Wolverine film is being hailed as a potential savior for the franchise. Through Sunday, the movie is predicted to bring in $195 million to $205 million domestically and $380 million to $400 million internationally.

In order to rescue the former’s home universe and reaffirm Wolverine’s purpose, the film brought together the X-Men icon and the Merc with the Mouth.

Other film franchises on top top-earning list

The previous cinematic franchises to achieve this milestone were the Star Wars franchise and the Sony-produced Spider-Man franchise, which together generated $10.6 billion in revenue over ten films. Star Wars made $10.3 billion from 11 films, which is comparable to the $9.6 billion that the Harry Potter series made from 11 films at the worldwide box office. Across 25 films, the James Bond franchise brought in $7.8 billion at the box office.
