This past weekend saw the release of Jujutsu Kaisen chapter 256, which continued Ryomen Sukuna’s somewhat unexpected return. More details about the Black Flash technique and the reasons it isn’t available to all sorcerers were covered in this chapter.

Nevertheless, Jujutsu Kaisen chapter 256 concluded with a heart-pounding sequence that gave viewers the scene they have been dying to see. The King of Curses appears to be headed for disaster as it appears that the cards have finally flipped against him this time.

Chapter 256 of Jujutsu Kaisen opens with a flashback showing Gojo Satoru instructing his students on Black Flash. They appear to be under the impression that because he has Six Eyes, he can use it whenever he pleases. This is untrue, though, as possessing something like Six Eyes does not ensure that he can use it whenever he pleases.

“A distortion of space that occurs when Cursed Energy (CE) and a physical strike land within 0.000001 seconds of each other,” is how he defines Black Flash. The definition provided was imprecise, and there are other elements that affect the technique itself.

Punching with their fist fully loaded with CE can result in one of three things: either their fist gets stronger, the CE strikes the target, or both. But timing isn’t the only thing that matters; the combination of the environment, the user’s physical state, the opponent’s CE, and even the humidity and temperature all have a significant role.

In other words, there’s no right or wrong way to release a Black Flash. Even for Gojo himself, everything eventually came down to luck, even if he infused his physical blows with CE. Although Gojo had more Black Flashes overall, Kento Nanami’s record for consecutive Black Flashes was higher than his.

After that, Jujutsu Kaisen chapter 256 returns to the present, where Maki, Miguel, Yuji, and Choso are assessing the circumstances. The four surmised that Sukuna, like Gojo, might have recovered his Reverse Cursed Technique (RCT) and was gaining the upper hand in battle.

They all attacked him at once to prevent this. Yuji grasped the railing that Choso had kicked up in an attempt to trap Sukuna. The Demon King dodged a Supernova thrown by Choso. Maki, following him closely, lunged in with the intention of stabbing him in the chest again.

Sukuna, however, managed to catch her sword, and they used the air as a footing to trade strikes. However, that was sufficient for the villain to launch a second Black Flash, this time at Maki and his third thus far. And with that, he looked directly at Choso.

Sukuna unleashed two rapid slashes. To stop the first set, Choso used Supernova. However, Sukuna’s second set was a fake, which let him get the upper hand and drive Choso into a nearby wall before unleashing his fourth Black Flash of the battle, squarely hitting him. Thankfully, Choso’s Blood Shield somewhat mitigated the damage.

Choso was in for some luck, as his brother Yuji managed to reach near and punch Sukuna in the face to force her back. At this point, Choso knew that Yuji’s attacks would keep weakening Sukuna’s CE and his hold on Megumi’s soul, regardless of how much momentum she gathered.

Larue was ordered to withdraw by Miguel nearby, but she refused, saying there was still something to accomplish. In the meantime, Sukuna rapidly recovered his composure and drove Yuji back with a gut punch. However, Yuji linked his hands once more, this time to fire Piercing Blood directly into the Demon King’s face.

Sukuna felt something unusual happen with a few feet separating them; it was like the premonition Mahito had felt in Shibuya about an approaching Black Flash from Yuji. The panel next depicts Sukuna’s head tilting in the direction of Larue and Miguel, with his pupils taking on a heart-shaped appearance.

The “Heart Catch” Larue’s Cursed Technique was used. It produced a sizable virtual hand that, if it grasped someone, might also take their heart. With his focus entirely redirected, it was the ideal moment. The following instant, Yuji released a massive Black Flash that scattered black sparks in all directions, striking Sukuna in the middle of her torso.

The teenager’s potential was now at last unlocked. The person selected by the dispersing black sparks, Yuji Itadori, had woken up in the middle of the confusion.

A summary of chapter 256 of Jujutsu Kaisen

256 of Jujutsu Kaisen concluded on a positive note. Fans of the show have been waiting patiently for this precise moment. There was no better time for Yuji to receive an upgrade or awakening, as it was long overdue.

The issue comes to a thrilling finish. Fans will have to wait an extra week for the next installment, though, since Jujutsu Kaisen will be taking a week off.
